Hiberfil.sys Exclusion?

  • 1.  Hiberfil.sys Exclusion?

I noticed yesterday that the file hiberfil.sys on a Windows system is not excluded by default in CrashPlan 5.4.3. Is there a reason this file wouldn't be excluded like pagefile.sys and swapfile.sys are? Just curious...

Curious, do you backup the entire drive in your environment?

We are running 5.4.1, by default we only backup data under the user profile, so we don't usually run into .sys files.

But I just checked and did see that under our Device Backup > Global Exclusions > Windows
That the page, swap, and hiber files are excluded. We did start our environment from 4.5.2.

That is curious if they were omitted in 5.4.3.

    Ken,

No, we don't backup the entire drive by default. The user decided to just check the box for the entire drive and in the process of sorting that out I noticed that the hiberfil.sys file was not excluded globally. The default selection is to backup C:\Users.

Pagefile.sys and swapfile.sys are excluded, just not hiberfil.sys. We started with version 5.3.x and are now at 5.4.3.

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Wayne.
