Backup status percentage less than 100...much less

    I'm trying to troubleshoot an issue of some devices reporting very low backup status percentages. One in particular is around 28 percent. I could probably quickly workaround this by uninstalling and reinstalling the client side app for Code 42. But I'm trying to figure out what is causing this so I can stop it from happening in the future. We have around 400 users and most often around a dozen are well below 100 percent. The logs dont seem to be helpful. I've restarted the backup engine...had the user sign in twice, even though we don't enforce the sign in administratively. The end user is using version:

    Do they perhaps use Outlook? If so, PST files can cause this. As far
    as I've seen, the backup engine scans the file entirely, so the scan
    process is reflected as the backup status in %

    I have had this same issues with clients too, and what I discovered so far is,
    • Much of the time the issue is related to open files in the AppData (Win) or ~Library (Mac) folders. These as you know can be seen by looking at the backup.files.log. Using excludes at the client can help.
    • But, with regards to the above, I have also noted that because people tend to "sleep" their computers more often than they restart or shutdown, that a true shutdown (clears memory, cache, etc) has a good effect on the issue as well.
    • Lastly, if the user just recently replaced their device in some way, allowing the device to be awake and active over night online, helps things catch up.

    Those are my most common go-to's, hope some of it is helpful.
