What's the strangest thing an end user has asked you?

    Hello everyone,

After the Spectre and Meltdown craziness I was thinking something amusing might be in order. What is the strangest or funniest thing an end user has asked you?

It doesn't have to be Code42 related, anything IT or security counts--just don't name any names, of course.

Well we are going back now. But while I was apprenticing I was party to a conversation that has stayed with me.

C level director arrives into the IT Dept to pickup his new mobile computer (early mass adoption of Apple laptops) turns to the tech next to me

"Also I've been told the Internet is very good. Something I should look at. Can you put it on a disk for me"

I stared straight ahead and didn't break eye contact with my screen while my colleague tried to explain and the Director thought he was being fobbed off and raised his voice and demanded to speak to the manager.

My very first support job was laptop/desktop phone support for IBM/Lenovo. It was 9pm, and a VP from IBM (1 of the 10,000+ they employ) had his hard drive crash while working on a report. He proceeded to curse me out because I couldn't get him a new hard drive immediately (although I could have a courier deliver one in 4 hours) and I couldn't get him an immediate replacement for his report. "Surely you have a copy of what I'm working on somewhere. Isn't that what you are here for?" That was in 2010, and IBM didn't use CrashPlan.

So this is when Laser and optical mice first started coming out.

I had a user who didn't use a mouse pad.

She started seeing these black dots on her desk.

They were from the bottom of the mouse rubbing against the desk.

She came and asked us very worried, if the Laser Mouse was burning holes in her desk.

These are all really great stories--do you all feel like these days end users are more savvy around technology, or do you just get different questions?

Feel like they are more savvy in basic operations as everyone has one and has a basic understanding.

As new technology comes out, new questions, however I feel like the technical "common sense" tends to be better with users.
