Device Backup Defaults - Confirmation

    Hi All,

We have a distributed model on campus here and a couple of the units have decided to do the following:

    - Create an initial backup org that only backs up 1 time every 24 hours. This differs from the default settings of 15 minutes.

They are doing this with the expectation that it will do the initial backup faster. I am for some reason struggling to make sense of that in my head, and am not sure that their effort of moving users between orgs once initial backup is complete is worth their time.

Can someone confirm, at least hypothetically, that having the backup set to run only 1 time every 24 hours would increase the "initial backup" completion?

    Thank you!

No, I don't think that will make the initial backup any faster, and it's only making more work if they're manually moving users around afterwards.

We've had similar confusion - the assumption is that the backup will stop every 15 minutes.  My understanding is that it runs as long as it needs to, but only checks if it needs to run every 15 minutes.

Just like you I fail to see the logic in this. I wouldn't think this would have any effect on the speed of the initial backup.

I was looking for some settings that I know can be pushed to the clients that could help with the initial sync, such as CPU utilization and disabling any network QoS settings and stumbled upon this. You're guys may be onto something. Is it possible to keep the devices on a physical LAN connection until the initial sync completes?

    Frequency settings

The Code42 app assumes that what you're working on now is most important so prioritizes your most recently changed files and backs them up first. The default setting is to back up new information every 15 minutes. This offers great protection and allows you to easily revert to a previous version of a file.

However, frequently backing up new work delays the Code42 app's opportunity for initial backup of old files.

To promote backup of old files, reduce the frequency for new versions of new files. This trade off can be beneficial until your backup is complete.
